Delhi: An octogenarian man was killed and a 75-year-old woman injured by unidentified robbers who targeted their adjoining houses in south-east Delhi early this morning, police said.
The incident was reported from Kalkaji Extension at about 4 am and the deceased has been identified as Janakrakh Lekhi (85). The injured is Vidya Gulbani who is undergoing treatment in Holy Family Hospital.
Robbers struck between 1 am and 3 am and ransacked the houses before attacking Lekhi and Gulbani, who were alone at their ground floor accommodations. Their children stay in the upper floors of the building.
"It appears that the robbers entered the second house after cutting the grill separating both the houses," a senior police official said.
The robbers apparently attacked the elderly people when they resisted the robbery.
Lekhi was found lying in a pool of blood by his maid while Gulbani was found tied and injured by her son who came here after an outstation trip.
Both of them were rushed to Holy Family Hospital where Lekhi was declared brought dead.
While around Rs 13,000 cash has been stolen from Gulbani's residence, the official said, cash and articles stolen from Lekhi's house is being ascertained.
