Imphal:
Suspected Kuki militants have kidnapped a senior Manipur government officer, official sources said in Imphal on Thursday.
Swami Kanta Singh, superintending engineer of public health engineering department, was abducted at gunpoint from a place near his house at Kwakeithel area here last evening.
The motive behind the kidnapping was not immediately known but monetary demands could be the reason, sources said.
The department has appealed to the militants for safe release of the official saying that he is an honest and straightforward officer.
Official sources said whereabouts of Singh were still unknown.
No individual or group has so far claimed responsibility for the kidnap.
