Moradabad: A senior IPS officer in Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh has been suspended for allegedly assaulting three members of his staff with an iron rod, a broom and a car wiper this morning.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajesh Modak lost his cool after his staff failed to inform him that Samajwadi Party leader HT Hasan, who had come to meet him at his home, had been waiting for two hours.

"He was not informed about the visit of HT Hasan sir. He hit us with an iron rod. Nothing like this has happened with me in my 18 years of service," said Guman Singh, a member of Mr Modak's staff.

"He told me to bring water. He hit me with his hands first and then with a broom. We have been asked to submit a request letter," said another staff member Daya Kishan Dangwal.

Mr Hasan admits he had complained after not being able to meet the SSP, but says he wasn't aware that the constables were beaten by Mr Modak.

"I was told the SSP is busy, so I left. Later I called him and he said he was in his house all the time I was waiting outside. When I returned, he summoned them and scolded them. But he didn't assault them in front of me," Mr Hasan said.
