Mumbai: On World Environment Day, Mumbai Mayor Shraddha Jadhav dished out some  water conservation tips, including serving guests just half a glass of water instead of one and asking hotels to keep a jug of water on tables so that guests could serve themselves the required amount.

The more useful tips included repairing leaky taps, not using hose pipes for gardening, switching off the motor before the tank fills to prevent overflow and recycling of sewage water.

"We started campaigning with Sachin to save water. We have other innovative ideas and will put up posters of different slogans in different languages like Hindi, Marathi and Urdu to rule out wastage. Awareness should increase in the outskirts and undeveloped areas of Mumbai. We need young volunteers to help us on this issue with their positive thinking," said Jadhav.

There are plans to create jingles on water conservation for TV and short animation films to be screened in schools and colleges.

Jadhav had earlier agreed with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's proposal for zone-wise 100 per cent water cuts once a week, which was implemented on an experimental basis and stopped when Mumbaikars protested.
