Hisar:
The situation at Guru Jambeshwar University of Science and Technology on Friday became tense after father of Gitika Mehta, who was axed to death allegedly by a senior student, entered the campus along with some locals raising slogans.
Lajpat Rai Mehta, father of Gitika, demanded that the university authorities should set up her statue.
The 20-year-old final year student of BTech in computer engineering was allegedly killed by Pradeep Nain, 22, final year BTech student of mechanical engineering, on November 26.
The crowd became restive and raised slogans in front of the vice chancellor's (VC) office, officials said in Hisar.
Some of them tried to enter the administrative block by pushing aside some of the employees forcibly and during the commotion someone pushed Prof M S Turan, newly appointed Proctor, who fell down and fractured his hand.
He was taken to hospital immediately in VC's car, sources said.
When contacted Turan said, "When the crowd forced entry in to our office we tried to save the VC. Some mischievous persons attacked me and I fell down. The doctor told me that my arm got fractured in the melee for which treatment has been started."
Dr K S Khokhar, acting Vice Chancellor, called the father of the girl and some others to discuss their demands.
It was decided that the request of the parents for installation of Gitika's statue at the university would be sent to the Chancellor for consideration.
Lajpat Rai said he would bear the expenditure for the statue.
Khokhar told the agitating crowd that from the new year, security arrangements would be handed over to a new agency managed by ex-servicemen and the university would write to the government and the court to deal with the case of murder on fast track.
