Seven children succumb to encephalitis in Uttar Pradesh
The death toll from the viral disease has reached 435
Gorakhpur: Seven more children succumbed to encephalitis pushing the death count from the viral disease to 435 this year in eastern region of Uttar Pradesh, health officials said today.

The children died in BRD Medical College Hospital in Gorakhpur since last evening, they said adding four of them were from Deoria and one each Gorakhpur, Kushinagar and Bihar.

With these deaths, the number of fatalities in eastern UP from the disease since this year rose to 435, the officials said.

Twenty-three persons with symptoms of encephalitis were admitted to BRD-MCH yesterday, they said.

Since January this year, 2120 encephalitis patients, of whom 435 succumbed to the brain-inflammation, were admitted to the hospitals, the officials said.

The dead included 49 from Bihar and one from Nepal.
