Chithodu, Tamil Nadu:
Five people were burnt to death and 21 others injured as a bus collided with a fuel tanker in Tamil Nadu's Erode district late last night. Two more passengers later died in hospital, taking the toll to seven.
The driver and the conductor of the bus are among the dead. Four passengers are said to be critical. The injured have been rushed to various hospitals at nearby Bhavani, Erode and Coimbatore.
The Coimbatore-bound bus from Bangalore dashed against the truck carrying aviation fuel from behind at Chithode, about 15 kilometres from Chitode, on NH-47, resulting in an instantaneous fire which gutted both vehicles, police said.
The truck, which was carrying aviation fuel, was on its way to the Coimbatore airport, police added.
