A hostel warden, who allegedly forced a schoolgirl in West Bengal to drink her own urine, has been granted bail after being arrested earlier today.
The victim is a student of Class 5 at the Patha Bhavan School in Shantiniketan near Kolkata. On Saturday night, the warden, Uma Poddar, during her daily inspection found that the girl had wet her bed. The student was under treatment for bed-wetting. But instead of administering her medicine, the warden allegedly made the minor lick the wet bedsheet "as a treatment to stop the bad habit".
The girl's parents had, after hearing about her ordeal, stormed the hostel premises and allegedly manhandled Ms Poddar.
They too were arrested by the police today for entering the hostel without permission, but were later released on bail.

The shocking incident led the authorities at the Visva-Bharathi University in Santiniketan to constitute a four member fact-finding committee to look into the allegation.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has also taken cognisance of the matter and has sought a report from the University.
