New Delhi:
Delhi Government on Tuesday did not appear averse to the Centre's suggestion on increasing minimum age for admission in nursery schools from three to four years.
"We have no objection to the suggestion," Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters when asked about HRD Ministry's suggestion to increase the minimum age for nursery students in the city following a consultation with principals and parents. Read: Nursery admission not before 4 in Delhi?
She said a three-year-old often finds it difficult to go to schools on buses.
The Chief Minister said her government was open to the idea of increasing the age-limit.
The suggestion from Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal came on Monday after a meeting with principals and parents. Sibal had said he would write to Dikshit to consider its implementation.
"The consensus was that the minimum age for nursery admission should not be three years. It should be four years. Admission into nursery system at three years adds emotional stress to the child when he should discover the world," Sibal has said.
