Mumbra: The politics of violence seems to be making a comeback to Maharashtra, barely a month before it goes to polls.
Workers of opposition Shiv Sena allegedly attacked a toll plaza in Mumbra in Thane district as they were reportedly unhappy over the poor quality of the road for which toll was being collected.
The Sena workers allegedly damaged computers, used to generate receipts for those who pay toll, inside the booth.
In February this year, the Sena's arch-rival -- the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena or MNS - had led an agitation against the practice of collecting tolls in the state.
The MNS chief, who had been issued notices under Section 149 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, was booked under Section 68 (person bound to conform to reasonable police orders) and Section 69 (power of police to restrain) of the Bombay Police Act. He was even detained by the Mumbai Police for a few hours and then released.
In July this year, the state government had announced a new toll policy and decided to do away with 44 toll plazas in the state. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in the state assembly. However, none of these toll booths are within Mumbai city limits.
