Shutdown in Tripura tomorrow to protest against killing of newspaper employees

Agartala: The opposition Congress in Tripura has called a dawn-to-dusk bandh in the municipal corporation area in Agartala tomorrow to protest the killing of three employees of a local Bengali daily.

Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath, belonging to the Congress, said today that the killing proved that journalists and newspaper employees were not safe in the state.

"This is unprecedented in the state as well as in the country. It proves that journalists and newspaper employees have no safety or security and that law and order has collapsed," Nath told reporters.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar directed the police to take all possible measures to arrest the killers.

In a statement, the ruling CPI-M demanded immediate arrest of the killers and an inquiry into the killings.

Motorcycle-borne attacked the office of 'Dainik Ganadoot' at the Palace Compound yesterday and stabbed to death the office manager, a proof reader and a driver.

The police said they were yet to make a breakthrough into the killing.
