Thane:
Six labourers were killed and nine others seriously injured when a truck in which they were travelling overturned and the heavy bore pipes inside it fell on them.
The incident took place in Torangan Ghat in Mokhada taluka in Thane yesterday killing four labourers on the spot, while two others died on their way to the hospital, they said.
The truck, which on its way to Thane from Nashik, was carrying over 30 bore pipes, weighing 70 kilos each along with 15 labourers seated on them, when the accident occurred.
The deceased were identified as Hiramani, Lakhpati Singh, Ajmer Singh, Ram Singh, Rajdar Motilal Singh, and Chatrapati Singh. The injured were admitted to the Nashik civil hospital.
The driver has been booked under section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code for causing death due to negligence. His blood samples have been taken to find out if he was intoxicated at the time of the accident.
