Six of family killed in Gujarat accident

Bharuch, Gujarat: Six members of a family, on their way to a funeral, were killed en route to Khambat in a road accident near Jambusar, around 60 kilometres from Bharuch on Thursday morning, police said.

The mourners were proceeding to Khambat in a Maruti van when a speeding truck rammed their vehicle on the busy Bharuch-Khambat highway, an official of Jambusar police station said.

The victims died on-the-spot.

The victims were identified as Iqbal R. Amodwala, a doctor; his brother Akbar R. Amodwala, a banker; his son Hussein I. Amodwala, a college student; son-in-law Hozefa A. Namakwala and his two-year-old granddaughter Ummesalma Yusuf Amodwala.

Another relative, 38-year old schoolteacher Shabana Mazhar Hirkani, was also killed in the accident.

Two women who were seriously injured -- schoolteacher Masooma I. Amodwala and her relative Nafisa Y. Amodwala -- have been admitted to a hospital in Baroda.

The bodies of the victims were brought to Bharuch on Thursday evening.
