Several inmates of the Government Boys Hostel situated on Hosur Road are being sodomised by their seniors and a security guard, according to a member of Karnataka State Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (KSCPCR).
"We have received complaints against a security guard who sodomised boys in the hostel. We raided the hostel a couple of times, but no child came forward to formally register a complaint. We can hardly do anything without a case being registered," MR Mamatha, the member, said.
Several senior boys too joined hands with the guard and forced themselves on the younger boys, she said.
"Those in charge of the hostel say that they have changed the security guard, assigned to the hostel by a private agency. Each time we visit the hostel, we find a new guard, and this has been continuing in the hostel for some time," Mamatha said.
Another member of the child rights panel, Vasudev Sharma, said minor boys were being sodomised even by their family members. "I have come across instances in which close relatives such as brothers, uncles and even visitors sodomise the boys."
Sharma added that there was no proper orientation within the law enforcing agency to handle such cases. "When a girl claims she was molested, there are proper sections under which a case is registered. However, when a boy says so, the police tend to ignore it. The police cannot be blamed, as they do not have proper orientation. They point at the child and say the child looks normal," said Sharma.
It was earlier reported that the police were initially reluctant to file an FIR on a case of sodomy last month. However, the DJ Halli police later took up the investigation and arrested a man, suspected to have sodomised the eight-year-old son of a professor.
The boy was returning home from a stationary store, when the man took him to a nearby isolated ground and tortured him for more than two hours.
