A Somalian national has been arrested for allegedly trying to purchase petrol using a counterfeit currency note in Rethibowli area here, police said today.
Abdi Rahman Sayed Kheyri, who is pursuing MBA at a private college, tried to purchase petrol with a counterfeit note having a face value of Rs 1,000 at a petrol station in Rethibowli last evening.
However, the petrol station staff got suspicious and after verifying the genuineness of the note found it to be fake, a police officer said, adding Abdi was later handed over to Langer Houz police.
After interrogating the accused it was found that he belonged to Somalia, but was neither having a passport nor a visa, the officer said.
Abdi was staying at Dilshad Nagar area since 2007, though he claimed that he had applied for a refugee status in Delhi.
The Somalian national has been booked under section 489B (Using as genuine, forged or counterfeit currency-notes) of the IPC and was today sent to judicial remand, he added.
