Kanpur:
Over a fortnight after a 12-year-old student died allegedly after being raped in her school, police have arrested the son of the school manager and charged him with the rape and murder.
Parents of the deceased and other social organisations were demanding the arrest of Piyush since the incident took place, as they suspected his involvement in the death of the girl.
The 12-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in her school in Kalyanpur area here on September 27, after which she died at a hospital the same day.
The girl's neighbour Munna was later arrested for the assault, though her mother claimed that he was not the real culprit.
Police was interrogating Piyush for the last two days and has now booked him under relevant sections of IPC. He was also sent for a medical test to ascertain his physical condition.
There was a large demonstration by the parents and many political parties outside the school when it reopened after 17 days on October 13, prompting the police to use baton charge to disperse the crowd.
