Mumbai:
Ruksana Ibrahim Khan was returning to her house in Chakala, from her daughter's place, when a taxi ran over her near the Bisleri factory in Andheri (East) on Thursday night around 10.55 pm.
"A speeding taxi hit her, and the driver fled from the spot, leaving the cab behind," said a police officer from the Andheri police station.
45-year-old Ruksana was immediately rushed to the R N Cooper hospital in Andheri (West), but was declared dead.
A case under section 279, 304 (a) of the IPC and 134 (a)(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act for hit and run has been filed against the cab driver. The family had reached the Cooper hospital to take Khan's body in the night at the time of going to print.
In another incident, an i10, driven by a young woman, rammed into a chauffeur-driven Mercedes, while taking a turn at the JJ hospital junction at around 2 am on Thursday night, with minor damage to both cars. Both parties approached the police but didn't register a complaint. No one was injured in the accident.
