Thane: A constable with the Traffic unit of Thane police was killed by a speeding vehicle while he was discharging duty at Kharigaon toll plaza in Thane today, police said.
Constable Abashaeb Thorat (40) was on duty at the Kharigaon toll plaza in Kalwa when the speeding truck, which bore a Haryana registration number, hit him at around 5.00 am today, a police inspector at Kalwa police station said.
The constable was killed on the spot and the body has been sent to Kalwa civic hospital for postmortem, the officer said.
The driver of the truck has been detained and the process of registering an offence against him was on, police added.
