Srinagar on the boil for sixth day

Srinagar: Kashmir has been raging for the past 6 days now. A curfew-like situation continues as people protest the killing of a 16-year-old boy, allegedly by the CRPF. The killing of the boy came at a time when the valley was already fuming since last week, following the death of a 13-year-old in teargas shelling by police.

Though Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has ordered a high-level enquiry into the killing of Shah, it failed to pacify the agitated people.

Police and paramilitary forces personnel were deployed to thwart any attempt by people to take out processions fearing it might worsen the highly-surcharged atmosphere.

While residents of the old city alleged that police and paramilitary force personnel did not allow them to come out of their houses, a police spokesman said, "Curfew has not been imposed in any part of the city but prohibitory orders have been enforced strictly".
