State gets 3 more sanctuaries

Jaipur: To ensure the protection and conservation of wildlife, the state government has declared Bisalpur in Tonk district, Jodbeer in Bikaner district and Sundhmata in Jalore district as new wildlife sanctuaries in the state.

Stating this on the conclusion of the 56th Wildlife Protection Week on Thursday at the Jaipur Zoo, the state minister for forests and environment Ram Lal Jat said it was necessary to initiate steps needed for maintaining balance in the environment for the protection and conservation of wildlife. Jat was addressing a state-level function. He said that there were over 15 lakh species of animals and birds but due to lack of proper conservation, a majority of them had become extinct. He said that the government had formed a board to save various species of animals and birds. Minister also said that the Gehlot government was fully committed for the conservation of the wildlife and for this the state had sent a number of recommendations to the Centre.

He said that the steps taken by the state government for the protection of wildlife include formation of forest policy, eco-tourism policy and the Tiger Foundation. A number of forest and environment officials, including VS Singh, RN Mehrotra and HM Bhatia spoke on this occasion.

Meanwhile, a local NGO, Wing of Research in Local Development (WORLD) carried a clean and green zoo campaign at the Jaipur zoo in which over 500 students participated.
