Dharmapuri:
A 52-year old headmaster of a government higher secondary school in Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu was arrested on Friday. He was booked for allegedly molesting a student, police said.
A case has been registered against K Panneerselvam for offences, including sexual harassment and kidnapping, on a complaint from the girl studying in 12th standard, District Superintendent of Police R.Sudhakar said on Friday night.
Earlier, villagers, including the girl's parents, staged a protest near the school at Mahendramangalam, 48 km from Dharmapuri. They withdrew the stir at around 9 pm after the police informed them about the registration of the case.
Police said the headmaster had offered lift in his car to two girl students of Jiddandahalli who were walking to the school on Friday morning. One of them refused it while the other girl boarded the car. After the headmaster dropped her in the school after a gap of couple of hours, the girl started crying and told the other teachers that she had been molested.
As the news spread, people from her village thronged the school along with her parent and staged a protest.
The SP said if necessary a medical examination of the girl would be conducted on Saturday.
