Jammu: A student was arrested and leopard skin was seized from his possession in Jammu city on Wednesday, police said.
Acting on a tip off, police intercepted a class 12 student at Panama Chowk in the city and recovered from his possession the skin of baby leopard along with its head, Trikuta Nagar Station House Officer Abid Hussain Rafeeqi said.
The accused, son of a policeman posted at General Railway Police at Udhampur Police Station, was arrested and a case has been registered against him, SHO said.
During preliminary investigation, the student told the police that he had brought it from Mahore belt of Reasi district.
Police apprehend that the accused is a member of a gang of smugglers involved in wild animal skin trade.
