Student Federation of India march turns violent

Kochi: Police burst teargas shells and waved lathis to chase away activists of Students Federation of India, who took out a march to the Kannayanoor taluk office here protesting against the state government's self-financing professional Colleges admission policy.

The march allegedly turned violent as some SFI activists tried to enter the Taluk office removing the police barricades. Police used water cannons, tear gas shells and waved lathis to chase them away.

Another section of students from the nearby Maharajas College allegedly pelted stones at the police.

Some activists and police were injured in the melee. Police later took SFI workers into custody.
