Student killed by cousin with knife in public attack
Pune: Twenty-year-old Jyotsna Bagul was riding her bike to college Friday morning when she was attacked. The attacker, her first cousin, 25-year-old Yogesh Bacchav whose romantic overtures she had refused. Jyotsna died instantly.

Jyotsna's friend Sadhana Godse who was riding pillion at the time of the attack, says she had tried to stop Yogesh.

"We were on our way to college. He came from behind and attacked her," said Sadhana.

NDTV: Did you know him?

Sadhana: He is her relative. He had been troubling her and her family for a while

NDTV: Did he say anything to her?

Sadhana: No. He just came from behind and stabbed her brutally. I tried a lot to stop him.

According to the police, Yogesh Bacchav who was working in Tata Motors was upset that Jyotsna was avoiding him. After killing her he too attempted suicide by inflicting injuries on his self with the same knife, but survived.

"They were first cousins and knew each other. It was a case of unrequited love. We have arrested him," said Mahesh Joshi, police inspector.

Yogesh has been charged with murder.
