Survivors' account of Pune blast

Pune: Initially termed as a cylinder blast, the explosion at the German Bakery in Pune claimed nine lives and has left over 50 people injured.

The bakery, a popular hangout point among with foreigners, is at a stone's throw from the Osho Ashram and the Chabad House, a Jewish prayer centre.

Many people were rushed to the Sassoon General Hospital. Many of the injured are foreign tourists. A Taiwanese national was admitted with severed limbs, broken bones and burns.

"We were sitting and having tea when suddenly the blast happened. Next thing I see someone pulling me from behind," says one of those injured Kantilal Ingal.

There was a loud bang. My daughter was also inside. Most of the people there were foreigners," says Sunanda Nair, another injured.

A Nepali national Paras Rimal, a waiter at the German Bakery almost cheated death. Paras says he was about to open the bag laden with explosives when fate intervened.

"It was very crowded since it was a Saturday. I was working. A bag was kept under the table. I told my boss about it and he asked me to get it. But someone asked me to get water. I went to get the water bottle when the blast took place," he said.
