Suspected Maoists kill Trinamool Congress supporter

Jhargram: A Trinamool Congress supporter was on Friday shot dead by suspected Maoists at Jhargram in West Midnapore district of former Maoist-hit Jungle Mahal area of West Bengal.

The police said the bullet-riddled body of Girish Sahis (42), a resident of Kismat Jambera village, was found on the side of road on Friday morning. It bore bullet marks on the throat.

His wife Dipali Sahis told the police that her husband went missing after going to irrigate their farm on Thursday evening.

Handwritten posters demanding withdrawal of joint security forces from Jungle Mahal and warnings to the Trinamool Congress-led government were strewn near the body.

Local Trinamool Congress leader Shankar Bej said "Sahis was a supporter of our party and the Maoists killed him to create trouble in the area."

Several CPI-M leaders and supporters have been killed in the former trouble-torn area before top Maoist leader Kishenji's killing on 24 November, 2011.

Maoists killed Jharkhand Janamukti Morcha leader Babu alias Rabindranath Bosu was killed 25 September last year at Dahijuri near Binpur.
