Nainital: An SUV burst into flames this morning about 60 kilometres from Nainital. None of the four passengers were injured; the accident caused a traffic jam on a major highway.
The Tata Safari belonged to Kailash Sati, who works in Delhi, and was headed to the hill station with three colleagues for a holiday. A short circuit in the engine allegedly set the car on fire. Mr Sati said his colleagues and he managed to rush out of the SUV. But because the accident took place in a part of the hills where cellphones don't work, the police took an hour to arrive.
By then, the car had burnt itself out, leaving behind a mangled heap of metal.
