Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital in Bengaluru
A hospital in Bengaluru was today allegedly vandalized by family members of a patient who died of swine flu early this morning.
The patient, suffering from H1N1 virus, was in a serious condition when she was admitted to Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital on February 26, hospital authorities said.
The family members damaged its equipment and property of the hospital, soon after the patient was declared dead, according to hospital authorities.
"On hearing about the death of the patient, the attenders caused havoc in the hospital. They have ransacked the equipment costing approximately Rs 40,00,000, smashed window panes of the Intensive Care Unit or ICU office and physically assaulted the Medical Directors of the Hospital when he tried to intervene and settle the issue," said a press statement from the hospital.
One security guard was also injured. A police complaint has been filed.
Swine flu cases have been on the rise in the country since the beginning of this year. Over 1,200 people have died and over 23000 cases of the disease have been reported across the country since January.
