A businessman was hacked to death by a five-member gang at Krishnan Koil near Srivilliputhur late on Sunday evening, police said.
Ramkumar, who is a marketing agent was attacked when he was waiting for his friend near Krishnan Koil, shocking onlookers who ran helter-skelter.
Police suspect that Ramkumar, a native of Watrap Pudupatti, could have been killed in a retaliatory attack, to avenge the murder of a person during a group clash between dalits and caste hindus over an eve teasing incident recently.
Three murders had taken place in and around W Pudupatti near Srivilliputhur in the last three weeks, police said.
Tension prevailed in W Pudupatti after the murder, police said, adding, they were maintaining tight vigil.
