Namakkal, Tamil Nadu:
Teased by some boys in class for her poor knowledge of English, an 18-year-old engineering student of Anna University in Chennai, allegedly committed suicide on Saturday, police said.
The girl, a first year Electronics and Communication Student, was upset as some boys sitting behind her used to tease her frequently, saying she could not speak English, police said.
The girl's father is a daily-wage labourer.
The girl, who studied in a village school, had got a seat after obtaining high marks.
The parents had tried to pacify the girl, saying they would accompany her to the college. But she hanged herself at home on Saturday, police said.
Police have registered a case under section 174 of CrPc (police to inquire and report on suicide).
