In a shocking case in Madhya Pradesh, a 16-year-old student was raped and then set on fire allegedly by her neighbour in the Khargaon district on Saturday night.
Rajendra, the accused, allegedly raped the girl on January 27, and when she said she would complain about it, he set her ablaze after pouring kerosene on her, said Additional Superintendent of Police, Sachindra Chouhan.
The family of the victim had gone for the marriage ceremony at the time. When they returned, they discovered the girl completely burnt. The victim succumbed to her injuries at the MI Hospital in Indore yesterday.
The accused is on the run.
