Teen girl confesses to Chandigarh hit and run

Chandigarh: She was last seen by a man who watched her climb out of a Honda Accord with her friend after hitting a motorcycle. Both girls flagged down a passing car for a lift and disappeared into the Chandigarh night. (Read: Chandigarh hit-and-run: One girl surrenders)

They left behind a young man and his cousin, a five-year-old child - knocked off their motorcycle. Both died while they were being taken to hospital.

Nearly 24 hours later, her face covered with a cloth, Amanat Brar turned herself in at a police station. She is 19, the daughter of a Dubai-based businessman.

The Honda that caused the accident is owned by Amanat's grandfather, Colonel GS Brar. The teenager has allegedly confessed to the police that she was at the wheel. He tells NDTV that both her family and she are very sorry for what happened and are willing to do whatever's required to make amends.

Amanat has been charged with causing death due to negligence. Within two hours, she was granted bail.
