Indore:
A murder for water, Poonam Yadav, a Class 9 student, was stabbed to death by a neighbour when she refused to let him take water from a tap in her house in Indore's Baksi Bagh area.
In a fit of desperate rage, Hukum Chand Goud stabbed Poonam over and over again.
"There was a fight over water and he killed her," said Trilok Yadav, victim's father.
Several people from the locality used to come to the Yadav's house to take water from the tap. But because of water shortage, Poonam had refused Hukum Singh.
Today, he allegedly came to her house with a knife and stabbed her. The girl was rushed to hospital, but the wound proved fatal; Hukum Singh and his family are now absconding.
"Accused came to her house and killed her after a fight broke out over water. The accused and his entire family are absconding," said police official.
"He killed my sister, he should also be killed just the way he killed her," said Poonam's sister.
Indore has had fairly good rainfall this season and people hoped the water situation would be better this time round. But water shortage remains a huge problem, not only in Indore but also in the entire state of Madhya Pradesh.
