To promote a campaign for road safety, MP K Kavitha gifted a helmet to her brother, Minister KT Rama Rao
Telangana's Industry and Information Technology Minister KT Rama Rao received a '
rakhi' and a helmet as a gift from his sister and Member of Parliament K Kavitha.
Ms Kavitha, the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, on Monday tied a '
rakhi' to her brother and also presented him a helmet as part of her 'Sisters4Change' campaign.
Through her social media campaigns 'Sisters4Change' and 'GiftAHelmet', the Lok Sabha member from Nizamabad has appealed to all sisters to gift a helmet on Rakhsha Bandhan for their brothers' safety.
Voicing concern over death of 400 people in two-wheeler accidents every day across the country, Ms Kavitha said it was because the riders don't wear helmets.
"Let's join hands for our brothers' safety. Set a new trend this
Rakhi: Gift your brother a helmet," she appealed.

Ms Kavitha's campaign received support from eminent people from different walks of life.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Smriti Irani, badminton players Saina Nehwal and Jwala Gutta, Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj, former cricketers Virendra Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir supported her campaign.
Sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik also lent support to the campaign through his art.
Many people backed Ms Kavitha's campaign through their messages on social media. There were also a few messages highlighting the bad state of roads in Hyderabad.
There was a tweet advising the Parliament member to ask her brother-minister to repair roads when she ties '
rakhi'.
"For helmets, she has to send message to lakhs of people but for ensuring better roads, one person is enough," said a citizen referring to accidents caused by poor condition of roads in the capital city.
Mr Rao, considered number two in the state cabinet, also holds the portfolio of Municipal Administration.
