Thane: Four persons, including a father-son duo, were arrested for allegedly buying stolen gold jewellery and Rs 3.50 lakh cash and ornaments worth Rs 6,17,500 were seized from them, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch of Thane police nabbed two persons from a utensils shop in Ambernath when they were purchasing stolen jewellery from a woman on April 1, Ulhasnagar crime unit senior inspector Uttam Tangade said.

However, the woman fled from the spot leaving Rs 3.5 lakh cash which was seized by police, he said.

When the police questioned the nabbed father-son duo, Ramesh Oswal and Subham Oswal, they revealed that the woman had brought some stolen jewellery to them and had come to collect money for the same.

Police later raided their premises and seized jewellery worth 90 gm, including a gold necklace, chain and 'mangalsutra'.

During interrogation, the duo also informed that they had sold some stolen jewellery to two other persons - Deepak and Kaka- who were also arrested and ornaments weighing 186 gms were recovered from them.

Police said Ramesh was earlier also arrested in connection with a similar crime at Mira Road in Thane.

The accused woman, identified as Sangeeta Sudharshan Kucchi, used to frequent jewellery shops and lift ornaments from there. She would then sell it to shopkeepers, they said.

A number of offences have been registered against her in Navi Mumbai and Thane, police said, adding that a search was on to nab her.
