Thane: A highly decomposed headless body of an unidentified woman, stuffed in a plastic bag was recovered from under the bridge on Mumbra bypass road in Thane, police said yesterday.
"Some local residents informed the police about the decomposed body lying under the bridge this morning. The head and legs had been chopped off and the trunk was stuffed in a plastic bag," Senior Police Inspector S M Munde of Mumbra police station, who is investigating the case, told PTI.
Police suspect that some unidentified persons might have killed the woman around five days back. The body was sent for postmortem.
A murder offence has been registered against unidentified persons and further probe is on, police said.
