Thane:
A murder suspect who was on the run for over 11 years has been arrested, police said today.
Devnath Ladkya Urade was nabbed by Crime Branch of Thane Police from the jungles of tribal-dominated Vikramgadh taluka near Thane, Senior Inspector Kishore Khairnar said and claimed the murder case has now been solved.
The 38-year-old was taken into custody during a routine combing operation launched by the police to round up anti-social elements ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
It later emerged Urade was part of a group of villagers who had attacked one Sadanand Tanha Garel, a resident of Palsai village in Vasai taluka, with sickles and iron rods, killing him on the spot on December 18, 2002. A minor tiff had led to the murder, he said.
Immediately after the incident, police had arrested two accused, Vilas Dattu Dabke and Sadanand Mahadu Karpat, while the third one, Urade, had managed to escape and remained untraceable all these years.
