Thane, Maharashtra:
An office superintendent and a senior clerk at the office of Deputy Registrar of Co-operative Societies in Thane were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe on Tuesday, the Anti- Corruption Bureau said.
Superintendent Arun D Patil (55) and senior clerk Pandari B Dandkar (38) had sought the bribe to approve conveyance deed of housing society in Thane, the Thane unit of ACB said.
The officers had demanded the bribe from each of the 64 flat owners of the society. After negotiations, it was agreed that each of the members would pay Rs 1,300, amounting to a total of Rs 83,200, ACB said.
Accordingly, the duo received an advance payment of Rs 50,000 earlier and the balance Rs 33,200 was to be paid on Tuesday.
The members of the society lodged a complaint with the ACB office, which laid a trap and arrested the officers.
Offences under Prevention of Corruption Act have been registered against the duo.
