Theft at contractor's office at Tarapur power station

Mumbai: Two contract workers were arrested for allegedly carrying computer power supply parts without valid gate pass from a contractor's office located outside the operating island of the Tarapur Atomic Power Station (TAPS), around 120 km from Mumbai.

The two contract workers Prashant More of Jena Engineering and Amit Shelke from Yash Tours and Travels were carrying computer power supply parts in a vehicle on November 1.

The materials were without a valid gate pass, Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd (NPCIL), which runs the TAPS, said in a statement here on Monday.

They were apprehended by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) along with their vehicle and handed over to the official in-charge of Tarapur police station, Chief Engineer (CP&CC) of NPCI, N Nagaich said.

Consequently, the duo was arrested and their vehicles were confiscated by the police.

One of the contractors has confirmed that the computer power supply parts belong to his company and they were lying in his office located outside the operating island of TAPS (3 and 4 units), the statement said.

Further investigations are being carried out by police, he said adding, "there is no breach of security at the station."
