Thiruvananthapuram:
Thousands of people across the state today thronged holly rivers and beaches to take a dip and offer 'Vavu Bali',a ritual offering to please forefathers, on the day of vavu on Malayalam month Karkkadakom.
Since early morning itself people from different parts of the district flocked the famous Parasurama Temple,Sankumugam beach here and Papanasini beach at Varkala, where speical arrangements were made to offer Bali tharpanam.
On the banks of holy river Periyar in Aluva in Kochi, large number of people converged to offer Bali to their ancestors. Offering Bali on the vavu day of Malayalam month Karkkadakom is considered to be very auspicious.
Government offices in the state were given holiday today to enable the people to perform the offering.
Temples in the state also witnessed heavy rush of devotees from early morning itself.
