Mumbai: Mumbai is battling the scorching sun, at 37 degrees the metropolis is suffocating. Adding to the discomfort is the eternal corporate accessory "the tie".
So this summer, a group of young corporates have decided to do away with the tie and launched a "No Tie" campaign.
But this month, this compulsory accessory has come undone. Blame it on the heat or a new environment consciousness.
"It's so hot, not wearing a tie certainly adds to feeling better in the heat," said Mihir Gandhi, corporate executive.
Mihir is a part of a group that has waged war against the formal, stiff and not to mention suffocating tie this summer! Alarmed by the surge in power consumption because of the spike in use of air conditioners in the heat, Mihir and his band of brothers have decided to go minus the tie and launched the "No tie campaign".
"When people wear ties they ask for office temperatures to be reduced, causing higher carbon emissions because of more air conditioning," said Dhiraj Shrinivasan, IT Consultant, founder, No Tie campaign.
The No Tie Campaign has found a few followers on Facebook too. But this is not the only group talking of shedding the tie and the suit in this heat.
The idea has got thumbs up from the deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.
"If you wear the suit, tie then the AC temperature has to be lowered by two degrees and that impacts the environment. So, it's time to look at a change in dress code," said Subir Gokarn, Deputy Governor, RBI.
