Three former Vice Chancellors booked in university job scam

Nagpur: Three former Vice Chancellors (VC) were among 50 people booked by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in connection with recruitment scam in Maharashtra Animal and Fisheries Sciences University (MAFSU) here, police said.

Former VC of MAFSU Arun Ninawe (now suspended), former VC of Karnataka Veternary and Animal Sciences University, Suresh Hannappagol, and Tamil Nadu Veternary and Animal Sciences varsity's ex-VC Nainar Nalaram and 47 others have been booked for corruption and alleged irregularities during the recruitment of teachers and other staff for MAFSU in 2007, Superintendent of Police (ACB) Sandeep Diwan said.

The accused including administrators, have been booked on charges of forgery, corruption and destruction of evidence under Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections of Prevention of Corruption Act.

In early 2007, MAFSU had published advertisements for recruitments to 1865 posts in various categories in teaching and non-teaching departments. Rampant corruption and irregularities were alleged during the recruitment.

The ACB team had conducted searches and raids on various locations on Wednesday in connection with the case, police said.
