Kasaragod: Thieves broke into the famous Durga Parameshwari temple near here on Tuesday and decamped with three 'panchaloha' idols and other valuables, police said.
An idol of Lord Ganesh, believed to be around 300 years old, and that of the presiding deity Durga Parameshwari, consecrated in the temple in 2004 were among the valuables looted,they said.
The theft was noticed this morning by a temple staff who informed the authorities.
Three cash 'hundis' were also stolen from the temple while a few temple articles were found abandoned around the premises of the shrine.
The thieves gained entry by breaking open the door-latch of the sanctum sanctorum,police said.
