Three Tripura residents kidnapped in Mizoram

Agartala: Within a week, three more Tripura residents, including two timber traders, were kidnapped by separatist militants from a border village in neighbouring Mizoram, police said in Agartala on Monday.

"The timber traders of northern Tripura went to Rajibnagar in neighbouring Mizoram to talk to their counterparts. Unidentified militants abducted them along with their driver from a house at gun point Sunday night," a Tripura police spokesman told reporters.

Rajibnagar village, in Mamit district of western Mizoram, is 225 kilometres north of Tripura capital Agartala.

Tripura Police have requested their Mizoram counterparts to take necessary steps to rescue the three people.

Police suspect that the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) guerrillas might have kidnapped the three people.

The NLFT militants abducted three tribals, including two school students, from their houses last week (November 20) in northern Tripura.

Tripura shares a 109- kilometre border with Mizoram.
