Ahmedabad:
The Karanj police claimed to have arrested three women on the charges of pick-pocketing. They were caught red-handed by the detection staff of the Karanj police on Tuesday evening.
The women, who hail from Maharashtra, reportedly come to the city during festive seasons and commit the crime.
According to police inspector KS Savani, the women were nabbed while they were trying to escape with a stolen bag in the busy market at Vasant Chowk. He said that the three have been identified as Ganga Kasai, Sunita Kasai and Kavita Sashani. All are residents of Nagpur.
According to police, such gangs become active during Diwali, when the city streets are buzzing with people. The women were caught after one Kalpna Prajapati, a resident of Naroda, screamed for help in the bustling Vasant Chowk market at Karanj.
Police claim that Ganga snatched Kalpna's bag and passed it to other woman, Sunita, who in turn gave it to the third accused, Kavita. However, before they could escape, the police nabbed them. Police also said that the gang used to steal in an organised manner. However, the cops said that these women come from an economically poor background and live on the footpaths even in their native city. Sources said that two of them are pregnant.
