Mathura:
A tiger is on the move in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh and its encounter with humans has spread panic. The big cat, that seems to have got out of the traditional reserves, has injured seven people so far including a child.
"It injured four people. Then at 7 O'clock, it injured a child. After that it attacked the child's relative, who had gone to see the child. It is a fully grown tiger. Sometime back, it ran from one field to another," said Chetan Singh, a villager.
Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan forest department teams have been trying to trap the tiger but agitated crowds have been making their job a lot more difficult. Also, there is a worry that angry villagers may attack the animal once it's trapped.
"Our staff has been searching for the tiger since yesterday. We want to put the tiger back in the jungle as soon as possible. Tiger was last sighted at a distance of 2.5 km, we can see the pugmarks," said Rahul Kumar, Additional District Forest Officer (DFO), Jaipur.
Tigers are known to travel vast distances and officials believe this one may have come all the way from Ranthambore in Rajasthan and was heading towards Bharatpur but got thrown off course.
The people are now hoping that the tiger is caught and taken back to safety.
