Pune:
The Maharashtra CID arrested two of Pune's top builders on Thursday on charges of land grabbing; one of them, Ramkumar Aggarwal, owns the city's five-star Le Meridien.
Two local corporators were also arrested - Ajay Bhosle of the Shiv Sena and and Rajesh Pillai of NCP - based on a complaint against a forced eviction incident in the Baner area, a prime location in the city.
The two builders had allegedly used the corporators' 'services' for the eviction, and a complaint was filed at back in 2006. But the complainant wasn't confident about the local police's investigations, and got the Mumbai High Court to transfer the case to the CID.
"The four arrested will be produced in court on Friday," said Superintendent of Police Sharad Shelar. "Numerous land grabbing cases have been reported in Pune in the recent past. Some builders have even grabbed prime defence properties worth crores," he added.
