Tractor plunges into canal; seven women drown

Guntur: Seven women were drowned when the tractor in which they were travelling in plunged into a canal near here, police said today.
     
The incident took place at Pitta Vari Palem village last night, when about 30 women of Komali village were returning to home after participating in a function.
    
As the vehicle reached Pitta Vari Palem, it got stuck in roadside slush. While trying to get out of the slush, the driver lost control and the tractor fell into the adjacent canal, they said.
    
Seven women perished, while others were rescued by the villagers, police added.
