Nagpur: At least two passengers were injured when eight coaches of a passenger train derailed near Wadsa railway station in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, South East Central Railway officials said today.
The mishap occured at around 10 PM last night when eight coaches, including the engine, of the Godia-Chandra Fort passenger train jumped off the track, they said.
Reasons behind the derailment are yet to be ascertained and an inquiry into the accident will be conducted, officials said.
Meanwhile, train traffic between Gondia and Chandrapur was disrupted because of the derailment, official sources said.
Accident relief trains from Gondia and Kazipeth in South Central Railway were pressed into service to lift the derailed engine and coaches.
A 24-year-old passenger, from Lakhani in Maharashtra's Bhandara district, who was stuck in the washroom of a coach, was extricated in the early hours today, South Eastern Railway, Nagpur division, senior divisional commercial manager Pradeep Kumar told PTI.
Divisional Railway Manager of the division, S L Varma, and other officials and engineers visited the derailment site.
Gadchiroli police PRO D T Joshi said they have no inputs on any foul play by Naxalites in the mishap considering the area is infested by ultras.
