Trials in CWG lanes lead to traffic snarls
New Delhi: Commuters had another harrowing day as Delhi Police on Thursday continued with the trials on exclusive lanes for Commonwealth Games vehicles on two stretches in the national capital.

The trials were conducted on Nizamuddin Bridge, Ring Road, Captain Gaur Marg upto Kalkaji Mandir and Sardar Patel Marg, Mother Teressa Crescent Road from 12 noon to 2 PM, which led to traffic snarls on both the stretches.

"The traffic was moving at snail's pace on Sardar Patel Marg and it took me more than an hour to reach Mother Teressa Crescent," said Ashok Kumar, a commuter.

Another round of trials will be conducted tomorrow on four stretches -- Road No 56-Road No 58A upto Yamuna Sports Complex, Kalkaji Mandir, Ma Anand Mai Marg, Lal Kuan, M B Road, Surajkund Road, Ring Road from Bhairon Marg upto Rajghat crossing and Ring Road from Chandgi Ram Akhara to Mal Road.

The city police began trials on weekdays from Wednesday which resulted in traffic snarls, compounding problems for commuters who have been reeling under disruptions due to rains in the city in recent weeks.

The exclusive lanes for Commonwealth Games will become operational from September 20 and violators will face a fine of Rs 2,000 and their vehicles will be impounded.

A notification to this effect has been issued by the Lieutenant Governor's office.
